Matt Stracker, P.E., is a California licensed professional mechanical engineer (license# M 37455) and UC Berkeley and Columbia University graduate.
Matt started his engineering career with a fascination for computer controlled mechanical systems. After completing his bachelor’s degree at UC Berkeley, Matt fell into the field of industrial automation and controls during an internship at Siemens in Berlin, Germany, where he learned and developed skills in the fundamentals of PLC programming from an industry expert. Upon internship completion, Matt continued his mechanical engineering path with a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Columbia University in New York, specializing in thermal fluid systems. With his master’s degree in hand, he returned to Berlin, which he felt was his second home and resumed working for Siemens, this time focusing heavily on projects mixing controls with mechanical design. After a few years, he moved into a role as a technical school instructor, completely revamping an industrial automation program and teaching the fundamentals of industrial controls, industrial electricity/electronics, pneumatics, PLCs and SCADA systems to freshman and sophomore level college students, while occasionally working on projects in the machine shop.
After a number of years in Berlin, Matt returned to California and started Stracker Engineering, initially focused on electronics and PCB design. However, recognizing the general lack of industrial controls knowledge and expertise in the bay area and the wide range of opportunities available working with startups and R&D companies who need to understand and integrate their products with this technology, Matt shifted his focus back to mechanical design and industrial controls. Since then, Matt has had the pleasure of partnering with various startups and R&D teams to design and build advanced, computer-controlled mechanical systems, a mission he passionately continues today.
A life-long learner and engineer-to-the-core, when not working or traveling back and forth to Germany, Matt brings engineering to his hobbies, having redesigned and built the controls for a Kaeser SX7 screw compressor with VFD for operation on single-phase to power his shop air system, to having recently completed a certificate of achievement as a CNC programmer out of personal interest.
